The Deer River American Legion baseball team picked up its first win of the season after cruising past Aurora, 8-1, at Portage Park in Cohasset Tuesday.
Post 122 pitcher Jeffrey Moore pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Moore doubled twice at the plate and drove in two runs as well.
After a one-two-three first inning, Moore led off the bottom of the first with a double. After a walk from Dakota Goggleye, Moore attempted to steal home but was thrown out. The next batter, Chad Benham, reached on a bloop single to score Goggleye to put Deer River up, 1-0.
Aurora had a batter reach in the second, but was picked off of second base to end the threat.
In the bottom of the second, Jaxson Willis reached on an infield single with one out. He stole second, reached third on a passed ball, then came into score on an RBI groundout from Colton Casselman. After Marcus Little was hit by a pitch, Moore walked. Then, Ethan Schjenken connected on a two-run double, extending Post 122’s lead to 4-0. Click here to read more.
