Stillwater pounces early eliminates 76ers

Stillwater jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top half of the first inning and never looked back to earn a 12-2 win over the St. Cloud 76ers in 7 innings at Siebert Field in MInneapolis. 

 

Stillwater (25-7) scored on a single by Will Frisch, a single by David Vanort, and a single by Matt Mcginly in the first inning.  Later in the inning, Stillwater scored two runs when Will Frisch singled with two outs.

 

St. Cloud 76'ers collected nine hits. Logan Aleshire, Austin Nicholas, and Ethen Hopper each collected multiple hits for St. Cloud 76'ers.  Hopper, Aleshire, and Drew Bulson each drove in one run to lead St. Cloud 76'ers.

 

Stillwater had 14 hits in the game. Thomas Bruchu, Austin Murr, Mason Schwerzler, David Vanort, and Frisch each collected multiple hits for Stillwater. Stillwater stole four bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Murr led the way with two.

 

The loss eliminated the St. Cloud 76ers from the Minnesota American Legion State tournament who finished the season with a 12-8-1 record.  Meanwhile Stillwater advanced to face the winner of Mankato National and Moorhead which was tied at 3 in the twelfth inning when this version of the story was posted.
