Edina, MN - Edina Post 471 pounced on Woodbury Blue early and cruised to a 7-0 win. The win represented the second of the day for Post 471 and their second shutout win.
A three run first inning was replicated in the third for Edina who hit four balls on the nose to open the game. A Cam Schmidt double plated two runs which held up as the difference of the game.
Post 471 pounded out 12 hits with four players collecting multi-hit games. Jay Chokrek (3-4, 2rbi), Cam Schmidt (2-3, 2rbi), Carter Thies (2-4, 2r), and Chester Dixon (2-3, 1r) all contributed to well balanced effort.
Will Haben was sterling on the mound allowing four hits and no runs over six innings of work. He struck out two and walked three. Walter Brandt came on in the seventh and shutdown Woodbury in order including two strikeouts.
Cameron Matz was 2-3 for Woodbury Blue at the plate and pitcher Riley Frisk worked 5 innings and was tabbed with the loss on the mound.
Edina will play one game on Friday against Tri-City Red, last year’s defending champions. Tri-City Red defeated Alexandria 4-1 to close thier opening day 2-0. Woodbury Blue is slated to play St. Michael at 10am at Courtney Field in Edina.
