Win or go home. Both Eastview and Buffalo faced those circumstances in a back and forth battle on Friday afternoon. But in the end, Buffalo’s bats prevailed in their 5-4 win over Eastview.
Eastview pounced on their opportunities early in this one, jumping out to a 1-0 lead thanks to Ross Cochran in the first inning. The very next batter, Cullen Buck scored on a wild pitch to increase their lead to 2.
It didn’t take long for Buffalo and their energetic dugout to respond. After his first inning single, Calvin James came around
the bases and scored his team’s first run on a wild pitch. Eathan Lasswell-Soeffker then delivered in the clutch for Buffalo, driving a 2 run home run deep into the left field grass. Suddenly Eastview’s early lead had slipped away.
Needing a response, Eastview tied the game in the second thanks to an RBI double from Brady Miller. With runners on base in the third, Buffalo caught a major break. Eastview third baseman Logan Tollefson committed an error, allowing runners to advance and James to score.
James would again be part of his team’s action in the 4th, driving a scorching line drive to the first baseman that was too hot to handle. Biegert came home to score on the error. Buffalo’s lead was now 5-3, their largest of the day.
In the 5th, Eastview’s Ross Cochran pulled his team back to within one. His RBI single to left drove home Cullen Buck to make it 5-4.
It was a relatively quiet finish from there, as Eastview’s bats went quiet. They weren’t able to get the equalizer and felll by a final score of 5-4.
